Brevard is the county seat and largest city of Transylvania
County in the
southern part of western North Carolina. This quiet little community, called
a villa by many, in the Blue Ridge mountains of western North
Carolina. The
county encompasses one-fifth of the Pisgah National
Forest and is just a short drive from the
Blue Ridge Parkway, the
Appalachian National Scenic
Trail,
and the Great
Smoky Mountain National Park just beyond with all of their
wonders.
Within the county are more than 250
waterfalls, over 200 miles of natural
waterways, and 470 miles of hiking trails. Natural wonders
abound both in and out of Pisgah
National Forest; dont miss the
Cradle of Forestry or Fish
Hatchery or the
French Broad River which flows north through Brevard.
For those who prefer more modern diversions, theres
shopping (and
dining!) in Brevard, the world class
Brevard Music Center,
the
Brevard College
Performing Arts Center, Sliding
Rock, and
much, much more not the least of which are our unique
little
white squirrels. That is what this
site is for to help you learn what Brevard and
Transylvania County is
all about and what there is to do here.
Now, youre probably thinking Yeah, everybody thinks
there
home is a great place to live! Okay, you judge for
yourself. Here
is a summary of some of the national recognition which we have
received in
recent years:
Not too bad, eh?
Now, for some of the cold statistics for those who like that sort
of thing.

appropriate.

Climate
The climate is very moderate with no extreme seasons. It is not
uncommon to experience highs into the 60s and 70s in
January and February while 90 degree summer days are the
exception rather than the rule. Both summers and winters are
normally both short and mild though it can sometimes get
cold and snowy for a short period!
The annual average precipitation at Brevard is 67 inches.
Near the Southwest corner of the county, it is closer to
80 inches making Transylvania County the second wettest
county in the nation, and the wettest east of the
Mississippi. But, this in no way means that its
gloomy here; there are surprisingly few such dreary days
with beautiful, long spring and fall seasons. Snowfall
is moderate, but when it does snow, it normally melts fairly
quickly.
