Hello! We are Olen and Nancy. We have been Brevard residents since the
summer of 1993 and plan to make this unique, little community our permanent
home.
As products of the baby boom, we did much as many of our fellow boomers and spent most of our early years chasing the proverbial rat. However, several years ago, we finally came to our senses and gave up that vain race into hopelessness and decided to search out a calmer, quieter, happier existence. Having previously visited the western North Carolina mountains, we decided to revisit the area. In April, 1993, we made our first trip, centering our attention on Asheville. Having lived in larger cities for many years, Asheville still seemed a bit more urban than we wanted, so we just began to explore the surrounding towns. After several stops, we came to Brevard, and Nancy said, This is it! and it was. By the end of July, we had moved into our first home in Knob Creek. No, life is not perfect here nor is it anywhere. But, considering climate, lifestyle, crime rate, and all the other factors which go into making daily life consistently happy, it doesnt get much better. We are now able to find the time to do many of those things we used to only talk and dream about. The crime rate is so low that you can walk around your neighborhood, even at night, without fear of being mugged, and you almost forget to lock your doors! And, maybe the biggest change is virtually never going anywhere without seeing a familiar face and friendly smile! Nancy works full-time as a Registered Nurse at Transylvania Community Hospital while Olen, a retired college professor and self-described nerd (and proud of it!), writes books on computers and the Internet. In October, 1997, we moved within the city limits of Brevard into the Sylvania district further cementing our commitment to remain in this area. When we were making our plans to relocate to this area, we often had difficulties locating information on various facilities. It wasnt that people werent helpful; it was that, other than the phone book, there was no single resource with comprehensive area information. We hope that this Web site will help to resolve that difficulty for future visitors and potential residents. The development and maintenance of this Web site is but one way we hope to contribute to and say Thank you to our community.
