There is quite literally no end to the things to do and see in the
surrounding area. In fact, surprisingly, you would probably find that most
people who have lived here for a number of years have not experienced many of
the activities listed below not from a lack of interest, but only from
not getting around to them!

Pisgah National
Forest

- Appalachian National Scenic Trail
- A 2,158 mile footpath along the ridge crests and across the major
valleys of the Appalachian Mountains from Katahdin in the
central Maine wilderness to Springer Mountain in a designated
wilderness area in North Georgia.

Blue Ridge Parkway
- A scenic drive of 469 miles through the
southern Appalachians of Virginia and North Carolina, linking
Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountain National Parks along
the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
- Chimney Rock Park
- An amazing vertical chimney-like rock structure
located near Lake Lure. You can go to the top!

Grandfather Mountain
- At 5,964, this is highest peak in the Blue Ridge, this is the only
private
park in the world to be designated by the United
Nations as an International Biosphere Reserve.
- Great Smoky Mountain
National Park
- One of the most popular and most visited parks in the country.

Linville Gorge
- On the Blue Ridge Parkway near
Grandfather Mountain this is
sometimes called the Grand Canyon of North Carolina.

Mount Mitchell State Park
- North Carolinas first state park surrounds the highest peak east
of the Mississippi at
6,684 ft. of the Blue Ridge Mountains and beyond.
- Nantahala
National Forest
- Another nature sanctuary similar and to the Pisgah
National Forest

Cherokee Indian Reservation
- Experience the life and culture of the Cherokee Indians.
Tour a recreated mid-18th century village, learn the history, view homes,
and see demonstrations of crafts, such as beadwork and pottery, of the
period. Try your luck at the Harrahs Cherokee Casino!

Fontana Dam
- This 480 foot high dam is the highest east of the Rockies. At nearly
a half mile wide, it creates the 29 mile long Fontana Lake.

Ghost Town in the Sky
- Located near Maggie Valley, NC, this is a western-style theme park
with more than 30 rides and shows.
- Lake Lure
- A nearby resort area built around a picturesque lake. This is the location
where the movie, Dirty Dancing,&148; was filmied. Daily tours except in winter.

- Bi-Lo Center (in Greenville, SC)
- A new, large 15,000 seat civic center in Greenville, SC that
attracts major entertainers such as Neil Diamond.
- Flat Rock Playhouse
- Located near Hendersonville, this is North Carolinas State
Theatre
and one of the top ten summer theatres in the nation.
- Pack Place

- Biltmore Estate
- Located in Asheville, this is the worlds largest, privately
owned estate.
- Biltmore Village
- Dating back to the 1890s, his collection of more than
a hundred shops, located near the
Biltmore Estate, occupies an important place in the history of the area
and
enjoys an international reputation for its unique and diverse offerings.

Carl Sandburg Home
- Located near Hendersonville, this home, which has been designated A
National
Historic Site, preserves Connemara, the 245-acre
farm where Pulitzer Prize-winning author,
Carl Sandburg, lived with his family for the last
22 years of his life.

Grove Park Inn
- A historic inn located in Asheville.

Mast General Store
- An 1883 general store located in Valle Crucis, NC where you can
get a 5¢ of coffee. Its the original building which is on the
National
Register of Historic Places.

Thomas Wolfe Memorial
- Tragically, this historic site was severely damaged last summer by
arson. It is currently in the slow, tedious, and costly process of being
restored as completely as possible.
